Status: Da'eef

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 275) said: “Write his narrations but do not take evidence from him”

2-    Ameer ul-Mu'mineen fil Hadeeth, Imaam   Abu al-Hasan ad-Daaraqutni (D. 385) said: “He is not strong”
[ Sunan ad-Daaraqutni (H. 2302)]

3-    Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee (D. 597) mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa
[ Ad-Du'afa wal Matrokeen by Ibn al-Jawzee (1/301)]

4-    Allaamah Abu al-Barakaat Ibn al-Mustawfi (D. 637) said: “He is weakened by the Ahl ul-Hadeeth, and they did not take evidence from him”

5-    Imaam Shams ud-Deen adh-Dhahabi (D. 748) said: “He is Da’eef”
[ Al-Kaashif by Dhahabi (1/411), Al-Mughni (1/243)]

6-    Haafidh Abu al-Fadl al-Iraaqi (D. 806) said: “He is Da’eef”
[ Takhreej Ahaadeeth al-Ihyaa by al-Iraaqi (1/1151)]

7-    Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani (D. 852) said: “He is Da’eef”
[ Taqreeb at-Tahdheeb by Ibn Hajar (1/220 T. 2087)]

8-    Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami (D. 807) said: “He is Da’eef”
[ Majma az-Zawaaid by Al-Haythami (5/126)]

At another place, he said: “He is Da’eef according to the Jumhoor”
[ Majma az-Zawaaid by Al-Haythami (10/388)]

9-    Allaamah Shihaab ud-Deen al-Busayri (D. 840) said: “He is Da’eef”
[ Ittihaaf al-Khayrah by al-Busayri (6/384)]

Those who praised him:

1-    Imaam Ya’qoob bin Sufyaan al-Fasawi (D. 277) said: “There is nothing wrong in him”
[ Al-Ma'rifah wal Taareekh by Ya'qoob bin Sufyaan (2/124)]

2-    Imaam Abu Bakr al-Bazzaar (D. 313) said: “There is nothing wrong in him”
[ Musnad al-Bazzaar (13/119 H. 6500)]

3-    Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani (D. 365) said: “According to me, when a Thiqah person narrates from Ziyaad an-Numayree, then he is Thiqah and there is nothing wrong in his hadeeth”

Contradictory Opinions:

The following are contradictory statements which are thus neutral.

1-    Imaam Yahya bin Ma’een said: “He is Da’eef ul-Hadeeth”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (3/536), Chain Saheeh]

While in another place, he said: “There is nothing wrong in him”
[Taareekh Ad-Dauri (4/95)]

2-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him in Ath-Thiqaat and said: “He makes Mistakes”
[Ath-Thiqaat by Ibn Hibbaan (4/255)]

While Ibn Hibbaan also mentioned him in al-Majroheen and said: “He is Munkar ul-Hadeeth, he narrates from Anas things, which do not resemble the narrations of Thiqah narrators, it is not permissible to take evidence from him”
[Al-Majroheen by Ibn Hibbaan (1/306)]

Note: The Jarh of Ibn Hibbaan seems preferable.

Conclusion:

Ziyaad bin Abdullah al-Numayree is Da’eef according to the Jumhoor.
