Tabaqah: 9 – From the Minor Taba Taabi’een

Death: 221H in Makkah

Narrated by: Bukhaari – Muslim – Abu Dawood – Tirmidhi – Nasaa’ee

Teachers: Ibraaheem bin Sa’d az-Zuhri, Hammaad bin Salamah, Shu’bah bin al-Hajjaaj, Layth bin Sa’d, Maalik bin Anas, Ibn Akhi az-Zuhri, Wakee’ bin al-Jarraah and many others.

Students: Bukhaari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi, Abu Haatim ar-Raazi, Ya’qoob bin Shaybah as-Sadoosi, and many others.

Status: Thiqah Hujjah

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

1-    Imaam Bukhaari narrated about 135 narrations from him in his Saheeh

2-    Imaam Muslim narrated about 17 narrations from him in his Saheeh.

3-    Ibn Tahmaan said, Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “He is Thiqah”
[Suwa’laat Ibn Tahmaan: 373]

4-    Imaam Ibn Sa’d said: “He is a worshipper, Faadhil, he recited to Maalik bin Anas his books”
[Tabaqaat al-Kubra: 7/302]

5-    Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee said: “Basari Thiqah, a pious man; Maalik bin Anas recited upon him the half of al-Muwatta, and he (al-Qa’nabi) recited the remaining half over Maalik”
[Thiqaat: P. 32]

6-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said: “I never wrote from anyone greater in my sight than him”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 839]

7-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “He is Thiqah Hujjah”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 839]

He also said: “He is more beloved to me (in al-Muwatta); I did not see anyone more humble than him”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 839]

8-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him in Ath-Thiqaat and said: “He is among the Muttaqineen in Hadeeth ”

9-    Imaam Ibn Shaaheen mentioned him in Ath-Thiqaat [687]

10-          Ibn Qaani’ said: “He is Basari Thiqah”
[Tahdheeb by Ibn Hajr: 6/32]

11-          Imaam Dhahabi said: “He is more reliable (Awthaq) from those who narrated al-Muwatta”
[Al-Abar: 1/301]

Dhahabi also said: “He is al-Imaam al-Thabat al-Qudwah Shaykh ul-Islaam…”

12-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar said: “He is Thiqah Aabid”
