Imaam
Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 275) said:
“ثقة إمام”
“Thiqah Imaam”

“أثبت الناس في ابن عيينة وهو رئيس أصحابه”
“He is the most Thabat of
people in narrating from Ibn Uyaynah, and he is the head of his companions”

Imaam
Muhammad bin Sa’d (D. 230) said:
وهو صاحب سفيان بن عيينة وراويته. مات بمكة في شهر ربيع الأول سنة
تسع عشرة ومائتين. وكان ثقة كثير الحديث”
“He is the companion of Sufyaan bin Uyaynah and he narrated from
him, he died in Makkah in the month of Rabee’ ul-Awwal at the year 219, and he
was Thiqah Katheer ul-Hadeeth”

Ibn Hibbaan (D. 354) mentioned him in Ath-Thiqaat and said:
“وكان صاحب سنة وفضل ودين”
“He was a man of Sunnah, virtue, and devoutness”

Abu al-Hasan ad-Daaraqutni (D. 385) mentioned him among the Huffaadh
companions of Imaam Sufyaan bin Uyaynah, saying:

“The Huffaadh companions of Ibn Uyaynah, among them is
Al-Humaydee”

Talkhees al-Mustadrak (944), and he also said:

“He is an Imaam, Haafidh, Faqeeh, and the Shaykh of Haram”

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani (D. 852) said:

“وكان من الفقهاء المحدثين النبلاء الثقات والحفاظ المأمونين”

Ibn Naasir ud-Deen ad-Dimashqi (D. 842) said:
“وكان من كبار الأئمة وأحد علماء الأمة، شديد النصح للإسلام
والعباد”
“He was from the major A’immah, and one of the Scholars of Ummah,
he was strictly faithful for Islaam and the worshippers”

Those who criticized him:
1-
Imaam
Yahya bin Ma’een (D. 233) said:
“كان يتسهل في السماع”
“He was lenient in hearing narrations”

At another
place, Imaam Ibn Ma’een was asked by Ibn al-Junayd about Al-Humaydee whether he
was Thiqah or not? He said:
“ما أدري، ليس لي به علم”
“I don’t know, I don’t have the knowledge about him”

After the tawtheeq of Jumhoor,
the slight criticism and unawareness of Imaam Ibn Ma’een does not harm
Note: The Jarh of Imaam
Ibn Abdul Hakam on Imaam al-Humaydee is not proven because of Abu Ja’far
as-Sakri in the chain (who is unknown).

Conclusion:
Imaam Humaydee is unanimously
agreed upon to be an Imaam, Hujjah, Thiqah, and Faqeeh.
