Students: Khaalid bin Khadaash, Ubaydullah bin Umar al-Qawaareeri, Muhammad bin Salaam al-Jumahi, Muhammad bin Amr bin Uthmaan bin Abi al-Ja’d al-Basri, Yahya bin Katheer al-Anbari, Abu Hafs al-Numayree and others.

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam al-Jarh wat Ta'deel Yahya bin Ma’een (D. 233) said: “He is nothing”

2-    Imaam al-Jarh wat Ta'deel Ali bin Abdullah al-Madeeni (D. 234) said: “He narrates Munkar narrations”
[ Ad-Du'afa al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee (2/81) Chain Saheeh]

3-    Ameer ul-Mu'mineen fil Hadeeth, Imaam   Muhammad bin Ismaa’eel al-Bukhaari (D. 256) said: “He is Munkar ul-Hadeeth”

4-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 275) said: “He narrates Munkar Marfoo narrations from Anas through the route of Ziyaad al-Numayree, thus we don’t know whether it’s from him or from Ziyaad? Nor do we know him narrating from anyone other than Ziyaad, so we rely on his hadeeth (through this route)”

5-    Imaam Al-Nasaa’ee (D. 303) said: “He is Munkar ul-Hadeeth”

6-    Imaam Abu Bakr al-Bazzaar (D. 313) said: “Zaa’idah is Munkar ul-Hadeeth”
[ Musnad al-Bazzaar (1/164 H. 92)]

7-    Imaam Abu Ja’far al-Ukaylee (D. 322) mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa
[ Ad-Du'afa al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee (2/81 T. 531)]

8-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (D. 354) said: “He narrates Munkar narrations from the famous narrators, evidence is not taken from him, nor are his narrations written down except for I’tibaar (i.e. Shawaahid & Mutaabi’aat)”

9-    Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani (D. 365) said: “Zaa’idah bin Abi ar-Ruqaad has some good narrations… and some of his narrations are in which he opposed various names….”

10-          Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee (D. 597) mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa
[ Ad-Du'afa wal Matrokeen by Ibn al-Jawzee (1/291)]

11-          Imaam Shams ud-Deen adh-Dhahabi (D. 748) said: “He is Da’eef”
[ Meezaan al-I'tidaal by Dhahabi (2/65)]

12-          Haafidh Ibn al-Mulaqqin (D. 804) said: “Zaa’idah is Munkar ul-Hadeeth as Bukhaari said”
[ Al-Badar al-Muneer by Ibn al-Mulaqqin (8/748)]

13-          Allaamah Shihaab ud-Deen al-Busayri (D. 840) graded a hadeeth saying: “Its chain is Da’eef due to the weakness of Zaa’idah”

14-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani (D. 852) said: “He is Munkar ul-Hadeeth”

Those who praised him:

1-    Imaam Ubaydullah bin Umar al-Qawaareeri (D. 235) said: “There is nothing wrong in Zaa’idah bin Abi ar-Ruqaad”

Conclusion:

Zaa’idah bin Abi ar-Ruqaad is Munkar ul-Hadeeth.
