Sallaam At-Ta’weel, Abu Sulemaan al-Madaa’ini




Name:

سلام بن سليم أو ابن سلم أو ابن سليمان ، التميمى السعدى أبو سليمان ، و يقال أبو أيوب ، المدائنى ، و هو سلام الطويل

Sallaam bin Sulaym or Ibn Salm or Ibn Sulemaan, At-Tameemi as-Sa’di Abu Sulemaan, and it is said: Abu Ayyoob, Al-Madaa’ini, and he is Sallaam at-Ta’weel

Narrated by: Ibn Maajah

Teachers: Ibraaheem bin Maymoon as-Saa’igh, Al-Ajlah bin Abdullah al-Kindi, Thawr bin Yazeed ar-Raajihi, Ja’far bin Muhammad as-Saadiq, Hamzah az-Ziyyaat, Humayd at-Ta’weel, Khaarijah bin Mus’ab al-Khurasaani, Zayd al-Ammi, Haaroon bin Katheer, Mansoor bin Zazaan and others.

Students: Asad bin Moosa, Sa’eed bin Sulemaan al-Waasiti, Abu ar-Rabee’ Sulemaan bin Dawood az-Zahraani, Abdur Rahmaan bin Thaabir bin Thawbaan, Ali bin al-Ja’d and others.

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal (D. 241) said:

ليس بذاك
“He is not like that”
[ Su’aalaat Ibn Haani (2266)]

2-    Imaam Yahya bin Ma’een (D. 233) said:

ليس بشيءٍ
“He is nothing”
[ Taareekh Ibn Ma’een, narrated by Ad-Dauri (4857), & Su’aalaat Ibn al-Junayd (871)]

In another place, he said:

ليس بِثِقَةٍ
“He is not Thiqah”
[Su’aalaat Ibn Tahmaan (378)]

In another place, he said:

ضعيف لا يكتب حديثه
“He is Da’eef, his narration is not (even) written down”
[Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee (2/11), Chain Saheeh]

3-    Imaam Muhammad bin Ismaa’eel al-Bukhaari (D. 256) said:

تركوه
“They have abandoned him”
[Al-Taareekh al-Kabeer (Vol. 4 T. 2224) & Ad-Du’afa as-Sagheer by Bukhaari (152)]

4-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi (D. 264) said:

ضعيف
“Da’eef”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta'deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (4/260)]

5-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 275) said:

ضعيف الحديث تركوه
“Da’eef in Hadeeth, they have abandoned him”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta'deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (4/260)]

6-    Imaam Ibraaheem bin Ya’qoob al-Juzjaani (D. 259) said:

غير ثقة
“Untrustworthty”
[Ahwaal ur-Rijaal by Juzjaani (358)]

7-    Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee (D. 261) said:

ضَعِيف
“Da’eef”
[ Ath-Thiqaat by Ijlee (705)]

8-    Imaam Al-Nasaa’ee (D. 303) said:

متروك الحديث
“Matrook in Hadeeth”
[ Ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen by Nasaa’ee (237)]

9-    Imaam Abu Ja’far al-Ukaylee (D. 322) mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa where he narrated some of his narrations and said:

لا يتابع على هذه الاحاديث والغالب على حديثه الوهم
“These ahaadeeth are not supported, and errors are dominant in his hadeeth”
[ Ad-Du'afa al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee (2/158)]

10-          Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani (D. 365) said:

وعامة ما يرويه عَمَّن يرويه عن الضعفاء، والثقات لا يتابعه أحد عليه
“Most of what he narrates from reliable and weak narrators is not supported by anyone.”
[ Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee (4/312)]

11-          Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (D. 354) said:

يروي عن الثقات الموضوعات كأنه المعتمد لها
“He narrates fabricated narrations from Thiqah narrators, as if he is deliberate in that”
[Al-Majroheen by Ibn Hibbaan (1/339)]

12-          Imaam Abu al-Hasan ad-Daaraqutni (D. 385) said:

ضعيف الحديث
“Da’eef in Hadeeth”
[ As-Sunan (1/220)]

In another place, he said:

متروك الحديث
“Matrook in Hadeeth”
[As-Sunan (2/150)]

And He also mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen and said:

متروك
“Matrook”
[265]

13-          Imaam Abu Abdullah al-Haakim al-Neesaaboori (D. 405) said:

روى أحاديث موضوعة
“He narrated fabricated narrations”
[ Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb by Ibn Hajar (4/282) & Al-Madkhal Ila as-Saheeh by al-Haakim (1/144)]

14-          Imaam Abu Nu’aym al-Asbahaani (D. 430) said:

مَتْرُوكٌ
“Matrook”
[ Hilyat al-Awliyah by Abu Nu’aym (4/335)]

15-          Imaam Shams ud-Deen adh-Dhahabi (D. 748) said:

متروك
“Matrook”
[ Al-Mughni (1/ T. 2496)]

16-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani (D. 852) said:

متروك
“Matrook”
 [ Taqreeb (2702)]

17-          Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami (D. 807) said:

هُوَ مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ، وَلَمْ أَرَ مَنْ وَثَّقَهُ
“He is Matrook ul-Hadeeth, and I do not know who has praised him”
[ Majma az-Zawaa’id (1/51)]

In another place, he said:

وَقَدْ أَجْمَعُوا عَلَى ضَعْفِهِ
“And they have unanimously agreed upon his weakness”
[Majma az-Zawaaid (1/212)]

Those who praised him:

None

Conclusion:

Sallaam is Matrook with consensus.
