“He was truthful, vast in knowledge and a Mufti”
[ Al-Kaashif by Dhahabi (2/369)]

At another place, he said:

“Thiqah Haafidh”
[Al-Mughni (2/739)]

At another place, he said:

“He is al-Imaam al-Muhaddith al-Haafidh al-Sadooq… He had excessive knowledge, he was well aware of the Hadeeth and the histories of people, he was insightful in Fatwa, he was truthful, and devout. I do not know what al-Nasaa’ee saw in him that he weakened him, and in another place, he said: ‘He is not Thiqah’; this Jarh is rejected for certainly Shaykhayn have taken evidence from him, and I do not know of any Munkar hadeeth from him until he was brought (in narrations)”

“He was Thiqah in (narrating from) Layth and they criticized him in his samaa from Maalik”
[ Taqreeb at-Tahdheeb by Ibn Hajar (7580)]

Ibn Hajar also said:

“Al-Bukhaari said in his Taareekh as-Sagheer that whatever Yahya bin Bukayr narrated from the people of Hijaaz in Al-Taareekh, indeed I have abstained from it. I (Ibn Hajar) say that this denotes that he (i.e. Bukhaari) would choose from the narrations of his Shuyookh and that is why, whatever is narrated from him from Maalik, all five narrations, are famous and supported”
[Fath al-Baari (1/452)]

15-          Allaamah Al-Khazraji (D. after 923) said:

“Write his narration and do not take evidence from him, he had the understanding of this field”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta'deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (9/165)]

3-    Imaam Al-Nasaa’ee (D. 303) said:

Conclusion:

Yahya bin Bukayr is Thiqah and only his samaa from Maalik bin Anas is criticized.
