Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

Those who praised him:

1-    Imaam al-Jarh wat Ta'deel Ali bin Abdullah al-Madeeni (D. 234) said:

وَهُوَ حَسَنُ الْحَدِيثِ مُسْتَقِيمُ الرِّوَايَةِ ثِقَةٌ إِذَا رَوَى عَنْهُ ثِقَةٌ، رَأَيْتُ عَلَى حَدِيثِهِ النُّورَ
“He is Hasan ul-Hadeeth, straight in narration, he is Thiqah when the one narrating from him is Thiqah, I have seen light in his narration”
[ Al-Ma'rifah wal Taareekh by Ya'qoob bin Sufyaan (1/426)]

2-    Imaam Muhammad bin Sa’d (D. 230) said:

وكان ثقة كثير الحديث
“He was Thiqah Katheer ul-Hadeeth”
[ Tabaqaat al-Kubra by Ibn Sa'd (9/150)]

3-    Imaam al-Jarh wat Ta'deel Yahya bin Ma’een (D. 233) said:

ثقة
“Thiqah”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta'deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (Vol. 7 T. 1042)]

4-    Ameer ul-Mu'mineen fil Hadeeth, Imaam   Muhammad bin Ismaa’eel al-Bukhaari (D. 256) said:

صحيح الحديث
“He is Saheeh ul-Hadeeth”
[ Ilal al-Kabeer of Tirmidhi (P. 59)]

Imaam Bukhaari also narrated 27 narrations from him in his Saheeh.

5-    Imaam Muslim bin al-Hajjaaj al-Neesaaboori (D. 261) narrated 24 narrations from him in his Saheeh

6-    Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee (D. 261) said:

مدني، ثقة
“Madani, Thiqah”
[ Ath-Thiqaat by al-Ijlee (1/400)]

7-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 275) said:

ثقة
“Thiqah”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta'deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (Vol. 7 T. 1042)]

8-    Imaam Ya’qoob bin Sufyaan al-Fasawi (D. 277) said:

مديني ثقة، يقوم حديثه مقام الحجة
“He is Madeeni, Thiqah, his hadeeth stands at the level of being Hujjah”
[ Al-Ma'rifah wal Taareekh by Ya'qoob bin Sufyaan (1/466)]

9-    Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah (D. 311) narrated from him in his Saheeh.

10-          Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (D. 354) narrated from him in his Saheeh, and he also mentioned him in ath-Thiqaat (5/381)

11-          Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani (D. 365) said:

فهو عندي لا بأس به، ولاَ أعلم له شيئا منكرا إذا حدث عنه ثقة
“There is nothing wrong in him according to me; neither do I know anything Munkar from him, when a Thiqah narrator narrates from him”
[ Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee (7/303)]

12-          Imaam Abu Hafs Umar bin Shaaheen (D. 385) mentioned him in ath-Thiqaat (1/214)

13-          Imaam Abu Abdullah al-Haakim al-Neesaaboori (D. 405) authenticated several of his narrations in al-Mustadrak.


14-          Imaam Shams ud-Deen adh-Dhahabi (D. 748) said:

وكان أحد الفقهاء الثقات
“He was one of the Thiqah Fuqaha”
[ Taareekh al-Islaam by Dhahabi (3/306)]

At another place, he said:

الإمام الثقة
“Thiqah Imaam”
[ Tadhkirat al-Huffaadh by Dhahabi (1/93)]

Imaam Dhahabi also mentioned him in “Man Takallam Feehi Wahuwa Mawthaq” and said:

ثقة كبير
“Major Thiqah”
[ 1/158]

15-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani (D. 852) said:

ثقة له أفراد
“Thiqah, he has lone narrations”
[ Taqreeb at-Tahdheeb by Ibn Hajar (5691)]

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal (D. 241) said:

في حديثه شيء، يروي أحاديث مناكير، أو منكره، والله أعلم
“There is something in his hadeeth; he narrates Munkar ahaadeeth, wallahu a’lam”
[ Al-Ilal wa Ma'rifat ur-Rijaal by Ahmed, narrated by Abdullah (1355)]

Maraaseel of Muhammad bin Ibraaheem at-Taymee:

Imaam Abu Haatim said in Al-Maraaseel of Ibn Abi Haatim that he did not hear from Jaabir, Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri, and Aa’ishah; while he heard from Anas bin Maalik and only saw Abdullah bin Umar and (besides Anas) he also heard from Abdur Rahmaan bin Uthmaan at-Taymee. In the same book, Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said that his hadeeth from Sa’d bin Abi Waqqaas is also Mursal. And it is mentioned in al-Tahdheeb that his narration from Usaamah bin Zayd and Usayd bin Hudayr is also Mursal. Imaam Tirmidhi said that he did not also hear from Qays bin Amr al-Ansaari.

Conclusion:


Muhammad bin Ibraaheem at-Taymee is Thiqah Faqeeh with the consensus of all besides Ahmed bin Hanbal.
