Husayn bin Abdullah bin Dumayrah al-Himayree al-Madani


Name:

الحسين بن عبد الله بن ضميرة بن أبي ضميرة سعد الحميري المدني

Al-Husayn bin Abdullah bin Dumayrah bin Abi Dumayrah Sa’d al-Himayree al-Madani

Tabaqah: 6 - From the contemporaries of Minor Taabi'een

Teachers: Abdullah bin Dumayrah, Amr bin Yahya bin Ammaarah, Katheer bin Ja’far bin Abi Katheer etc.

Students: Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Bakkaar, Anas bin Iyyaad, Ibraaheem bin Muhammad bin Sama’aan, Ismaa’eel bin Abi Uways, Bishr bin Numayr, Abdullah bin Maslamah bin Qa’nab, Zayd bin al-Hubbaab and others.

Status: Kadh-dhaab (Liar)

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Yahya bin Ma’een (D. 233) said:

لَيْسَ بِشَيْءٍ
“He is nothing”
[ Al-Majroheen by Ibn Hibbaan (1/244), Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel (3/58), Chain Saheeh]

In another place, he said:

ليس بثقة، ولا مأمون
“He is neither Thiqah nor Ma’moon”
[Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee (3/226)]

At another place, he said:

كذاب ليس حديثه بشيء
“He is a Liar, his hadeeth is nothing”
[Taareekh Ad-Dauri (1108) & Al-Kaamil (3/226), Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer lil Uqaylee (1/246), Chain Hasan]

2-    Imaam Ali bin Abdullah al-Madeeni (D. 234) – Imaam Bukhaari said:

تركه علي وأحمد
“Ali (al-Madeeni) and Ahmed have abandoned him”
[Taareekh al-Awsat with reference from Ta’jeel al-Munfa’ah (96)]

3-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal (D. 241) said:

متروك الحديث
“Matrook ul-Hadeeth”
[ Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee (2/336), Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel (3/58), Chain Hasan]

In another place, he said:

ليس بشيء
“He is nothing”
[Al-Ilal (4922)]

4-    Imaam Muhammad bin Ismaa’eel al-Bukhaari (D. 256) said:

مُنكر الحديثِ
“Munkar ul-Hadeeth”
[ Al-Taareekh al-Kabeer by al-Bukhaari (2/388) & Ad-Du’afa as-Sagheer (1/47)]

At another place, he said:

ضَعِيفٌ ذَاهِبُ الْحَدِيثِ
“Da’eef, strayed away in hadeeth”
[Al-Ilal al-Kabeer lil Tirmidhi (1/394)]

5-    Imaam Ibraaheem bin Ya’qoob al-Juzjaani (D. 259) said:

ما ينبغي أن يحدث عنه
“It is not befitting to (even) narrate from him”
[ Ahwaal ur-Rijaal lil Juzjaani (1/216)]

6-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi (D. 264) said:

ليس بشئ ضعيف الحديث، اضرب على حديثه
“He is nothing, Da’eef ul-Hadeeth, cross over his hadeeth”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (3/58)]

7-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 275) said:

ترك الناس حديث الحسين بن ضميرة وهو عندي متروك الحديث كذاب
“People have abandoned the hadeeth of al-Husayn bin Dumayrah, and he is Matrook ul-Hadeeth Kadh-dhaab according to me”
[ Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel by Ibn Abi Haatim (3/58)]

8-    Imaam Al-Nasaa’ee (D. 303) said:

متروك الحديث
“Matrook ul-Hadeeth”
[ Al-Kaamil (3/226)]

9-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (D. 354) said:

يَرْوِي عَن أَبِيهِ عَن جده بنسخة مَوْضُوعَة
“He narrates a fabricated nuskhah from his father from his grandfather”
[ Al-Majroheen by Ibn Hibbaan (1/244)]

10-          Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani (D. 365) said:

هو ضعيف منكر الحديث وضعفه بين على حديثه
“He is Da’eef Munkar ul-Hadeeth; his weakness in his hadeeth is evident”
[ Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee (3/231)]

11-          Imaam Abu Ja’far al-Ukaylee (D. 322) mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa and said:

الغالب على حديثه الوهم والنكارة
“Error and Oddness is dominant over his hadeeth”
[ Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer lil Uqaylee (1/246)]

12-          Haafidh Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi (D. 456) said:

حُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي غَايَةِ السُّقُوطِ وَالِاطِّرَاحِ بِاتِّفَاقِ أَهْلِ النَّقْلِ
“Husayn bin Abdullah is at the peak of failure and abandonness with the consensus of the people of narration”
[ Al-Muhalla by Ibn Hazm (7/495)]

13-          Imaam Ibn Abdil Barr al-Andalusi (D. 463) said:

وحسين هذا متروك الحديث مجمع على ضعفه
“This Husayn is Matrook ul-Hadeeth; there is a consensus on his weakness”
[ Al-Istidhkaar by Ibn Abdil Barr (2/189)]

14-          Haafidh Ibn Daqeeq al-Eed (D. 702) said:

وحسين هذا متروك الحديث
“This Husayn is Matrook ul-Hadeeth”
[ Al-Imaam by Ibn Daqeeq (3/514)]

15-          Haafidh Ibn Abdil Haadi (D. 744) said:

وقد أجمعوا على تكذيبه
“They have unanimously agreed upon his being a Liar”
[ Tanqeeh ut-Tahqeeq (2/191)]

16-          Haafidh Abu al-Fadl al-Iraaqi (D. 806) said:

حُسَيْنٌ هَذَا مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ
“This Husayn is Matrook ul-Hadeeth”
[ Tarh at-Tathreeb (2/173)]

17-          Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami (D. 807) said:

هُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ كَذَّابٌ
“He is Matrook Kadh-dhaab”
[ Majma az-Zawaaid (4/107)]

18-          Imaam Shams ud-Deen adh-Dhahabi (D. 748) mentioned a Matrook narrator and after that he mentioned this Husayn and said:

أوهى من الذي قبله
“He is even worse than the previous one”
[ Deewaan ad-Du’afa (1/88)]

19-          Imaam Ibn al-Jaarood (D. 307) said:

كذاب ليس بشيء
“Kadh-dhaab, he is nothing”
[ Lisaan al-Meezaan (3/173)]

20-          It is said that Imaam Maalik bin Anas al-Madani also called him a Liar [See, Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer lil Uqaylee] but its chain is weak, wallahu a’lam.

Those who praised him:

1-    Muhammad bin al-Muthanna narrated that:

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ ضُمَيْرَةَ
“I heard Abdur Rahmaan (bin Mahdi) narrating from Husayn bin Abdullah bin Dumayrah”
[Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer lil Uqaylee (1/246), Chain Saheeh]

Conclusion:

Husayn bin Dumayrah is Kadh-dhaab and Matrook with consensus.
