Name:
قيس بن عمرو بن سهل بن ثعلبة الأنصارى المدنى ( جد يحيى بن سعيد الأنصارى
و أخويه )
Qays
bin Amr bin Sahl bin Tha’labah al-Ansaari al-Madani (the grandfather of Yahya
bin Sa’eed al-Ansaari and his Brother)
Some people have called him “Qays bin Sahl” as mentioned by Ibn Mandah and Abu
Nu’aym as if he is attributed towards his grandfather. And it is said he is “Qays bin Qahd” as said by Mus’ab az-Zubayree
which is narrated by Ibn Abi Haatim and others from him. Ibn Abi Khaythamah has
mistaken in this issue. What seems more authentic is that Qays bin Qahd and
Qays bin Amr bin Sahl are two different personalities. That is why, Imaam
Bukhaari has differentiated between the two [See, Taareekh al-Kabeer lil
Bukhaari (7/142)]
[See, Al-Isaabah by Ibn Hajar
(5/491)]
