At another
place, he said: “Abdul Wahhaab bin Ataa is from
the narrators of Muslim, his hadeeth is Hasan… as for what Ibn al-Jawzee
narrated in his Tahqeeq about him from Ar-Raazi that he used to lie, and from
Al-Ukaylee and Nasaa’ee that he is Matrook ul-Hadeeth, then they had said this

·
It is said that Ibn
Khalfoon mentioned him in his book of Thiqah narrators
[Ikmaal
Tahdheeb al-Kamaal by Mughaltaai: 8/378]
Those who criticized him:
1- Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “He
is Da’eef ul-Hadeeth, Mudtarib”
[Ad-Du’afa by
al-Ukaylee: 3/77, wallahu a’lam]
2- Imaam al-Bukhaari mentioned him in ad-Du’afa as-Sagheer and
said: “He is not strong according to them”
[1/92]
3- Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “Write
his narrations, his place value is truth” His son Ibn Abi Haatim
asked: “Is he more beloved to you or Abu Zayd
al-Nahwi in narrating from Ibn Abi Aroobah?” He replied: “Abdul Wahhaab is not strong in hadeeth according to them”
[Al-Jarh wat
Ta’deel: 6/72]
Note:
Haafidh Ibn al-Qattaan al-Faasi said about this saying of Abu Haatim that: “This saying from Abi Haatim is not a Tad’eef. It only
means that: He is not strong in strength as compared to others who are above
him; and Muslim has narrated from him rahimahullah
[Bayaan
al-Wahem wal Ayhaam: 5/262]
4- Imaam al-Bazzaar said: “Abdul

[Al-Irshaad by
al-Khaleeli: 1/252]
8- Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee mentioned him in ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen
[2/158]
·
Zakariyyah bin Yahya is
reported to have said: “He is Sadooq, he is not
strong according to them”
[Taareekh
Baghdaad: 11/23-24]
However, the
chain of this saying is weak because of the presence of Muhammad bin Ahmed bin
Abdul Malik al-Aadmi
Abdul Wahhaab and Tadlees
1- Imaam Abu Zur’ah was asked about him, so he replied: “He narrated two narrations from Thawr which were not
from the hadeeth of Thawr, I mentioned these two narrations to Yahya ibn Ma’een
so he said, ‘he did not mention Khabar (affirmation of hearing) in them’”
[Al-Jarh wat
Ta’deel: 6/72]
Similarly,
Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said about the hadeeth of Abdul Wahhaab narrated from
Thawr bin Yazeed from Makhool from Kurayb from Ibn Abbaas mentioning the
virtues of Abbaas (radiallah anhu) that: “This
is Mawdoo (Fabricated), and Abdul Wahhaab did not say in it that Thawr narrated
to us, and it is possible that he committed Tadlees”
[Tahdheeb
al-Kamaal: 5/20]
This proves
that he was a Mudallis according to Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een.
2- Haafidh Ibn Hajar mentioned him in the third level of
Mudalliseen
[Tabaqaat
al-Mudalliseen with Fath ul-Mubeen: P. 57]
The following
Scholars also mentioned him in their books of Mudallis narrators:
3- Al-‘Alaa’ee [P. 108]
4- Abu Zur’ah Ibn al-Iraaqi [42]
5- As-Suyooti [37]
6- Al-Halabi [P. 40]
7- And Ad-Dameeni [3/129]
Conclusion:
Abdul Wahhaab bin Ataa is Thiqah
according to the Jumhoor and is also a Mudallis.
