Status: Da’eef with consensus

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “His Father is stronger than him in Hadeeth”
[Al-Ilal: 2512; Al-Kaamil: 2/90]

2-    Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir is Da’eef, and his son Ismaa’eel is (also) Da’eef”
[Taareekh Ibn Ma’een, narrated by Abbaas ad-Dauri: 2/31; al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee: 2/90]

3-    Imaam Muhammad bin Ismaa’eel al-Bukhaari said: “There is something fishy in his narration (Fee Hadeethihi Nadhar)”
[Al-Taareekh al-Kabeer by al-Bukhaari: 1079; Ad-Du’afa as-Sagheer by al-Bukhaari: 14; Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee: 1/73]

Imaam Bukhaari also said: “He has strange narrations”
[Al-Awsat: 2/138]

4-    Imaam Abu Nu’aym al-Fadl bin Dukayn said: “Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir both (Father and Son) are not strong but they are not Matrook (also), they are in between”
[Al-Ma’rifah wal Taareekh: 3/234]

5-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi mentioned him in ad-Du’afa
[2/599]

6-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “He is not strong, write his narrations”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 1/1/153]

7-    Imaam at-Tirmidhi said: “Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem is weakened in hadeeth”
[Sunan at-Tirmidhi: H. 3082]

8-    Imaam Nasaa’ee said: “He is Da’eef”
[Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee: 2/90]

9-    Imaam Ibn Adee said: “His hadeeth contains some oddness, and his father is better than him”
[Al-Kaamil: 2/91]

10-          Imaam Ibn Hibbaan al-Busti mentioned him al-Majroheen and said: “He commits grave mistakes”
[1/122]

11-          Imaam Abu al-Hasan ad-Daaraqutni said: “Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir is Da’eef”
[Sunan ad-Daaraqutni: 4/13 H. 3018]

12-          Haafidh al-Bayhaqi said: This Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem and his father, both are Da’eef”
[Ma’rifat as-Sunan wal Athaar by Bayhaqi: 8/214 # 11685]

At another place, he said: “Ismaa’eel is not strong in hadeeth”
[Same: 14/107]

At another place, he said: “Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir is Da’eef and his father is not strong”
[Sunan al-Kubra lil Bayhaqi: 6/57 H. 11183]

13-          Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee said: “Ismaa’eel and his Father are Da’eef”
[Al-Tahqeeq fi Masaa’il al-Khilaaf: 2/370]

Ibn al-Jawzee also mentioned him in ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen
[1/109]

14-          Haafidh Abu al-Hasan Ibn al-Qattaan al-Faasi said: “He is Da’eef”
[Bayaan al-Wahem wal Ayhaam: 3/128]

15-          Haafidh Ibn Katheer said: “This Ismaa’eel has been weakened in hadeeth”
[Jaami al-Masaaneed wal Sunan: 10/344 H. 13233]

Ibn Katheer also said: “He is Da’eef”
[Al-Bidaayah wal Nihaayah: 6/246]

16-          Imaam Dhahabi said: “Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir and his father both are Da’eef”
[Talkhees al-Mustadrak: H. 2269]

At another place, he said: “They have weakened Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir”
[Talkhees: H. 2326]

At another place, he said: “Du’f”
[Al-Kaashif: 351]

17-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani said: “He is Da’eef”

19-          Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami said: “He is Da’eef”
[Majma az-Zawaaid: 3/297, 5/186, 8/259, 10/21]

20-          Haafidh al-Busayri said while grading a hadeeth: “This chain is Da’eef because of the weakness of Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem”
[Itthaaf al-Khayrah: 1/319; Misbaah uz-Zajaajah: 3/87]

21-          Al-Muttaqi al-Hanafi said: “Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir is Da’eef”
[Kanz ul-Ummaal: 9/424 H. 26800]

Those who praised him:

1-    Imaam al-Haakim authenticated his hadeeth saying, “Its chain is Saheeh”
[Mustadrak al-Haakim: H. 2269 & 2326]

Note: Imaam Haakim is known for his Tasaahul. Therefore, his Tasheeh is not accepted against the Jumhoor.

Conclusion:

Ismaa’eel bin Ibraaheem bin Muhaajir is Da’eef with consensus.
