يزيد بن أبان الرقاشى ، أبو عمرو البصرى ، القاص ( من زهاد أهل البصرة ، و هو عم الفضل بن عيسى بن أبان الرقاشى )

Yazeed bin Abaan ar-Riqaashi, Abu Amr al-Basari, al-Qaas (From the ascetics of Ahl al-Basrah, and he is the uncle of Al-Fadl bin Eesa bin Abaan ar-Raqaashi)

Tabaqah: 5 – From the Minor Taabi’een

Death: Before 120 H

Narrated by: Al-Bukhaari in al-Adab al-Mufrad – Tirmidhi – Ibn Maajah

Teachers: Abaan ar-Riqaashi, Anas bin Maalik, Al-Hasan al-Basari, Ghunaym bin Qays al-Maazni, and others.

Students: His teacher al-Hasan, Qataadah, Al-Awzaa’ee, Hammaad bin Salamah, Mu’tamir bin Sulemaan, and others.

Status: Da’eef

1-    Imaam Amr bin Ali al-Fallaas said: “Yahya (bin Sa’eed al-Qattaan) would not narrate from Yazeed ar-Riqaashi”

2-    Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “He is Da’eef”

3-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “Do not write from Yazeed ar-Riqaashi….. he is Munkar ul-Hadeeth”

4-    Imaam Ali ibn al-Madeeni said: “He is Da’eef”

9-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi mentioned him in ad-Du’afa

10-          Imaam Ya’qoob bin Sufyaan said: “There is weakness in him”

At another place, he said: “He is Layyin ul-Hadeeth”

11-          Imaam Ibn Sa’d said: “He is Da’eef Qadri”

12-          Imaam Abu Hafs Ibn Shaaheen mentioned him in Taareekh Asmaa ad-Du’afa wal Kadh-dhaabeen

13-          Imaam Tirmidhi said: “Moosa bin Ubaydah and Yazeed bin Abaan ar-Riqaashi have both been declared weak in hadeeth”

14-          Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him in al-Majroheen and said: “He is from the best of the worshippers of Allaah (and) from those who shed tears during the night in privacy and stand (in prayer) (even) in (severe) colds, (and) he is among those who got negligent of the art of hadeeth and its preservation; he got busy with Ibaadah and its Asbaab until he started altering the Kalaam of Hasan (al-Basari) and making it to be from Anas from the Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) while he himself did not know; when his narrations grew plenty which were not from the hadeeth of Anas and other people from the Thiqaat, then taking evidence from him became invalid. Thus it is not permissible to take narrations from him…”

17-          Haafidh al-Busayri said: “He is Da’eef”

He also said: “There is a unanimous consensus on his weakness”
[Misbaah uz-Zajaajah: 1/14-15]

18-          Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee declared him Weak
[Al-Mawdoo’aat by Ibn al-Jawzee: 2/55]

He also mentioned him in ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen

19-          Haafidh al-Haythami said: “He is Da’eef”
[Majma az-Zawaaid: 1/155, 4/28, 7/158 etc]

20-          Haafidh Ibn Katheer said: “Certainly his narrations are not accepted by the A’immah”

21-          Haafidh Ibn al-Mulaqqin weakened him

22-          Haafidh Dhahabi said: “He is Da’eef”
[Al-Kaashif: 2/380 T. 6277]

23-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar criticized a chain saying, “However, its chain contains Yazeed bin Abaan ar-Riqaashi, and evidence is not established from him”
[Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb: 8/378 T. 672]

He also said: “He is Da’eef”

Those who praised him:

1-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “He is a preacher (who) sheds tears, he has a lot of narrations from Anas in which something is fishy (Feehi Nadhar), he is a companion of Ubaadah and there is proficiency in his narration”

2-    Imaam Ibn Adee said: “Yazeed ar-Riqaashi has Saalih narrations from Anas and others, and we hope there is nothing wrong in his narrations narrated by Thiqah people from Basrah, Koofah and others.”
[Al-Kaamil: 9/131]

Conclusion:

Yazeed bin Abaan is severely weak and Matrook in hadeeth
