Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal accused him of narrating Munkar narrations
[See, Al-Ilal (1353), Du’afa al-Ukaylee (1533) etc]

2-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan said: “He is among those who narrate Mu’addal (disconnected) narrations from the companions of Allaah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and brought Maqloob (altered) things from the Thiqah people…”

However, the chain of this saying is weak because:
1.     Abu al-‘Alaa al-Waasiti is Da’eef [See, Meezaan al-I’tidaal: 3/654 & Lisaan al-Meezaan: 7/367]
2.     Abu Bakr al-Baabisayri is not clarified as to who he is?
