Amr bin Abi Amr Mawla al-Muttalib




Name:

عَمْرو بن أَبي عَمْرو، واسمه ميسرة، مولى المطلب بْن عَبد الله بْن حنطب، القرشي المخزومي، أَبُو عُثْمَان المدني.

Amr bin Abi Amr, and his name is Maysarah, the client of Al-Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab, a-Qurashi al-Makhzoomi, Abu Uthmaan al-Madani

Tabaqah: 5 – From the Minor Taabi’een

Death: After 150 H

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

Those who praised him:

1-    Imaam Maalik bin Anas narrated from him and he usually only narrated from those who are Thiqah according to him

2-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: There is nothing wrong in him”
[Al-Ilal wa Ma’rifat ur-Rijaal: 1/229; Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: Vol. 6 T. 1398]

3-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said: “He is Thiqah”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: Vol. 6 T. 1398]

4-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “There is nothing wrong in him”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: Vol. 6 T. 1398]

Imaam Abu Haatim also said: “His narration from Abu Moosa al-Ash’ari is Mursal”

5-    Imaam Bukhaari narrated from him in his Saheeh
[H. 99, 1671, 2235, 2889, 3367, 5425, 6363, 6369, 6469]

6-    Imaam Muslim narrated from him in his Saheeh
[H. 80, 1365, 1640, 1643]

7-    Imaam Tirmidhi authenticated his hadeeth in his Sunan
[H. 1325, 2169, 2170, 2209, 3484, 3922 etc]

8-    Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani said: “There is nothing wrong in him, for verily Maalik (bin Anas) has narrated from him, and Maalik did not narrate except from those who are Sadooq and Thiqah (according to him)”

9-    Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah authenticated his hadeeth in his Saheeh
[H. 2461]

10-          Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him in his book of Thiqah narrators and said: “He sometimes make mistakes, his hadeeth is reliable when Thiqah people narrate from him”
[Kitaab ath-Thiqaat: 5/185]

Imaam Ibn Hibbaan also narrated from him in his Saheeh
[H. 271, 480, 709, 3481, 3971, 4417, 4725]

11-          Imaam Abu Awaanah narrated and authenticated his hadeeth in his Saheeh
[H. 5838, 5842, 5856 etc]

12-          Imaam al-Haakim authenticated his hadeeth to be on the conditions of Shaykhayn
[Al-Mustadrak: H. 199, 810, 1286, 1748, 7853 etc]

He also said about his hadeeth that: “Its chain is Saheeh”
[H. 233, 2019, 2070, 2161, 6991, 7231, 7465, 8049, 8052, 8066 etc]

13-          Imaam Dhahabi said: “His hadeeth is Saalih Hasan, lacking the highest rank of Saheeh”
[Meezaan al-I’tidaal: Vol. 3 T. 6414]

He also mentioned him in Man Takallam Feehi Wahuwa Mawthaq [P. 25]

14-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani said: “He is Thiqah, sometimes he makes mistakes”
[Taqreeb: 5083]

15-          Jalaal ud-Deen as-Suyooti said: “He is declared Thiqah by the Jumhoor”
[Al-Haawi Lil Fatawa: 2/104]

Those who criticized him:

1-    Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “There is weakness in his hadeeth, he is not strong, nor is he Hujjah; and Alqamah bin Abi Alqamah is more reliable than him”
[Taareekh Ibn Ma’een narrated by ad-Dauri: 2/450-451]

2-    Imaam Nasaa’ee said: “He is not strong”
[Ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen by al-Nasaa’ee: 455]

3-    Ibraaheem bin Ya’qoob al-Juzjaani said: “He is Mudtarib ul-Hadeeth”
[Ahwaal ur-Rijaal: 206]

4-    Imaam Abu Ja’far al-Ukaylee mentioned him in Ad-Du’afa
[P. 156]

5-    Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee mentioned him in ad-Du’afa
[P. 120]

Conclusion:

Amr bin Abi Amr is Thiqah according to the Jumhoor.
