Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:
Those who praised him:
1- Imaam Abdur Rahmaan bin Mahdi used to narrate from him (which is
considered a tawtheeq from him as he would normally only narrate from those who
are thiqah according to him)
[See,
Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee: 3/300]
2- Imaam Affaan bin Muslim as-Saffaar narrated from him and said: “He
is Thiqah”
[Al-Kaamil by
Ibn Adee: 6/162]
3- Imaam Abu Eesa at-Tirmidhi authenticated his hadeeth in al-Sunan
[H. 1536,
1577, 1826, 2452, 2456, 2535, 3934]
4- Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee said: “He is Basri Thiqah”

narrators
[1/182 T. 1111]
6- Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah authenticated his hadeeth in his Saheeh
[H. 2194]
7- Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned in his book of Thiqah narrators.
[7/243 T.
9889]
And he also
narrated from him in his Saheeh
[See, H. 870,
971, 3108, 3476, 4579, 5062, 5823, 6554, 6832, 7400, and 7484]

Saheeh”
[Al-Mustadrak:

At another
place he said about Imraan that: “He is Saalih al-Hadeeth”
[H. 1427]
11-
Imaam Zaya al-Maqdisi
narrated and authenticated his hadeeth in al-Mukhtaarah
[H. 1390, 2502,
2503, 2504, 2506 etc]

14-
Haafidh Ibn Hajar
al-Asqalaani said: “He is Sadooq makes mistakes”
[Taqreeb: 5154]
·
Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal
said: “I think he is Saalih al-Hadeeth”
[Al-Ilal by
Abdullah bin Ahmed: 3/25]
This is
contrary to Imaam Ahmed’s other opinion where he said: “He is nothing”
and he weakened him
[Su’aalaat
al-Marwazi: 166]
Therefore,
both these sayings are neutralized due to being contradictory.
Those who criticized him:
1- Imaam Yahya ibn Sa’eed al-Qattaan would not narrate from him
[See,
Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee: 3/300 etc]
2- Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “Yahya bin Sa’eed (al-Qattaan)
would not narrate from Imraan al-Qattaan, and he is nothing”
[Al-Ma’rifat
us-Sunan wal Athaar by Bayhaqi: 8/237, Chain Saheeh; Ad-Du’afa al-Kabeer by
al-Ukaylee: 3/300, Chain Saheeh]
At another
place he said: “He is Da’eef ul-Hadeeth”
[Al-Ilal by
Abdullah bin Ahmed: 3/25]
He also said: “Imraan
al-Qattaan held the opinion of Khawaarij, and he did not call towards it”
[Ad-Du’afa
al-Kabeer by al-Ukaylee: 3/300]
3- Imaam Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismaa’eel al-Bukhaari mentioned
him in his book of weak narrators.

as-Sagheer by al-Bukhaari: 281]
4- Imaam Nasaa’ee said: “He is Da’eef”
[Ad-Du’afa wal
Matrokeen by al-Nasaa’ee: 1/85]
At another
place, he said: “He is not strong”
[Sunan
al-Nasaa’ee: H. 3094, 4115]
5- Imaam Abu Ja’far al-Ukaylee mentioned him in ad-Du’afa
[3/300]
6- Imaam Abu al-Hasan ad-Daaraqutni said: “He is Katheer
ul-Wahem wal Mukhaalifah”
[Su’aalaat
al-Haakim li’d-Daaraqutni: 445]
7- Haafidh Ibn al-Jawzee said mentioned him in ad-Du’afa wal
Matrokeen
[2/220]
8- Imaam Dhahabi said: “Imraan is Da’eef”
[Talkhees
al-Mustadrak: H. 8670]
·
Imaam Abu Dawood is
reported to have said: “He is Da’eef”
However, the
chain of this saying is weak because Abu Ubayd al-Ajurri is not proven to be
Thiqah.
Conclusion:
Imraan bin Daawar is Sadooq and
Hasan ul-Hadeeth according to the Jumhoor.
