Abaan bin Saalih bin Umayr bin Ubayd




Name:
أبان بن صالح بن عمير بن عبيد القرشى مولاهم ، أبو بكر المدنى و قيل المكى

Abaan bin Saalih bin Umayr bin Ubayd al-Qurashi, their client, Abu Bakr al-Madani and it is said, Al-Makki

Birth: 60 H

Tabaqah: 5 – from the Minor Taabi’een

Death: 100 and some H in Asqalaan

Narrated by: Bukhaari in Ta’leeq form – Abu Dawood – Tirmidhi – Nasaa’ee – Ibn Maajah

Teachers: Anas bin Maalik, Hasan al-Basari, Shahr bin Hawshab, Ataa bin Abi Ribaah, Ataa bin Yasaar, Umar bin Abdul Azeez, Mujaahid bin Jabar, Az-Zuhri, Naafi’ Mawla Ibn Umar, and others

Students: Ibn Jurayj, Muhammad bin Ishaaq bin Yasaar, Muhammad bin Ajlaan, Usaamah bin Zayd al-Laythi and others.

Status: Thiqah

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

1-    Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “He is Thiqah”
[Taareekh Ibn Ma’een by Ad-Daarimi: P. 6]

2-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “I don’t see any harm in him”
[Su’alaat Abu Dawood: 367]

3-    Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee said: “He is Thiqah”
[Thiqaat: 2747]

4-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said: “He is Thiqah”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 2/297]

5-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “Abaan bin Saalih is Thiqah”
[Same]

6-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan declared him Thiqah by mentioning him in Kitaab ath-Thiqaat
[6755]

7-    Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah authenticated him by narrating narration from him in his Saheeh
[See, Saheeh Ibn Khuzaymah: H. 58]

8-    Imaam al-Haakim authenticated his hadeeth saying: “This hadeeth is Saheeh ul-Isnaad”
[Mustadrak al-Haakim: H. 2576, 2791 etc]

9-    Imaam Dhahabi said: “He is Thiqah”
[Taareekh al-Islaam: 3/207]

Note: Ibn Abdil Barr and Ibn Hazm erred when they criticized Abaan. Ibn Abdil Barr said in Al-Tamheed that: “He is Da’eef” while Ibn Hazm said in al-Muhallah that: “He is not famous”.

10-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar answered both of them saying: “This is negligence from both their sides and a mistake… thus no one weakened Abaan anyone before them…”

Haafidh Ibn Hajar also said: “The Jamhoor has declared him Thiqah”
