Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

1-    The famous Imaam of Asmaa ur-Rijaal, Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een was asked: “Is Sulemaan bin Bilaal more beloved to you or ad-Daraawardi?” So he replied: “Sulemaan (is more beloved) and both of them are Thiqah”
[Taareekh Uthmaan bin Sa’eed ad-Daarimi: 389]

Imaam Abu Bakr bin Abi Khaythamah narrates that Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “Ad-Daraawardi is Saalih; there is nothing wrong in him”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 5/396, Chain Saheeh]

Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een has said: “Whoever I say ‘there is nothing wrong in him’ to, he is Thiqah”
[Al-Kifaayah by Al-Khateeb, P. 22, Chain Saheeh; Taareekh Ibn Abi Khaythamah, P. 592 H. 1423, Chain Saheeh]

2-    Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee said: “He is Madani Thiqah”
[Taareekh al-Ijlee: 1016]

3-    The student of Imaam Maalik and Ad-Daraawardi, Mus’ab bin Abdullah bin Mus’ab bin Thaabit bin az-Zubayr al-Qurashi al-Asdi az-Zubayri said: “Maalik bin Anas declared Ad-Daraawardi to be Thiqah”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 5/395, Chain Saheeh]

4-    Another famous Imaam of Asmaa ur-Rijaal, Imaam Ali bin Abdullah bin al-Madeeni said: “He is Thiqah Thabat according to us”
[Suwa’laat Muhammad bin Uthmaan bin Abi Shaybah: 160]

5-    Imaam Bukhaari (according to my knowledge) has narrated about 14 narrations from Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi or mentioned him in Mutaabi’aat
[Saheeh Bukhaari: H. 528, 1607, 2018, 2519, 3885, 4246, 4247, 4798, 5507, 6358, 6564, 6989, 7045, 7398]

6-    Imaam Muslim (according to my knowledge) has narrated about 60 narrations from Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in his Saheeh

Since there is no Jarh from Imaam Muslim proven on Ad-Daraawardi, therefore, he is Thiqah and Sudooq according to him.

Imaam Haakim said: “(Imaam) Muslim has taken evidence from Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad (i.e. he narrated from him as a Hujjah)”
[Al-Mustadrak: 1/205 H. 738]

7-    After narrating a narration from Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad, Imaam Tirmidhi said: “This hadeeth is Hasan Saheeh”
[Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 75]

This proves that he is Thiqah and Sudooq according to Imaam Tirmidhi
[Also See, Sunan at-Tirmidhi: 948… etc]

8-    Imaam Abu Awaanah al-Asfaraaini has narrated narrations from Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in his Saheeh Abi Awaanah
[See, Musnad Abi Awaanah: 1/35 H. 81]

9-    Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah took evidence from the hadeeth of Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in Saheeh Ibn Khuzaymah
[See, 1/381 H. 778 etc]

10-          Imaam Ibn al-Jaarood took evidence from Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in his Famous book al-Muntaqa
[See, H. 460]

Ashraf Ali Thaanvi al-Deobandi said about a narration: “Ibn al-Jaarood has mentioned this hadeeth in al-Muntaqa, thus it is Saheeh according to him because he does not bring except Authentic hadeeth in it as affirmed by as-Suyooti in the preface of Jama’ al-Jawaami’”
[Bawaadir al-Nawaadir, P. 135]

11-          Imaam Haakim declared the hadeeth of Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi to be “Saheeh ul-Isnaad” in his famous book al-Mustadrak Ala as-Saheehayn.
[See, Al-Mustadrak: 1/205 H. 738; Also see, 1/219 H. 798]

12-          Imaam Husayn bin Mas’ood al-Baghawi said about a narration narrated by Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad that: “This Hadeeth is Saheeh”
[Sharh us-Sunnah: 1/52 H. 24]

13-          Imaam al-Zayaa al-Maqdisi narrated the narration of Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in al-Mukhtaarah
[See, Al-Ahaadeeth al-Mukhtaarah: 4/273 H. 1468]

14-          Imaam Abu Hafs Umar bin Ahmed bin Shaaheen al-Waa’iz mentioned Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad in Kitaab ath-Thiqaat
[P. 162]

15-          Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in Kitaab ath-Thiqaat and said: “And he commits Mistakes”
[7/116]

Imaam Ibn Hibbaan himself has narrated several narrations from Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi in his Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan, for example see (H. 152, 174, 220)

There are about 93 narrations of Ad-Daraawardi in Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan which proves that the meaning of “Yakhti (Makes Mistakes)” does not mean he is Da’eef; otherwise he would not have declared many of his narrations to be Saheeh.

Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned ad-Daraawardi in “Mashaaheer Ulama al-Amsaar” and said: “He is among the Fuqaha and Leaders of Madeenah”
[P. 142 T. 1120]

16-          Imaam Abu Nu’aym al-Asbahaani has narrated narration from ad-Daraawardi in Mustakhraj Ala Saheeh Muslim
[See, Vol. 1 P. 158 H. 240]

17-          Imaam Bayhaqi said about a Mawqoof narration narrated by Ad-Daraawardi that: “This Mawqoof narration is Saheeh”
[Al-Sunan al-Kubra: 7/462]

18-          Haafidh Dhahabi has authenticated many narrations of Ad-Daraawardi in several places in Talkhees al-Mustadrak [See, Point # 11]

And he said: “He is al-Imaam al-Aalim al-Muhaddith”
[Siyar A’laam al-Nabula: 8/366]

Haafidh Dhahabi further said: “His Hadeeth is present in the six (important) books of Islaam, but Bukhaari only narrated from him with the support of another narrator; and in any condition, his hadeeth and the hadeeth of Ibn Abi Haazim does not drop from the level of Hasan”
[Al-Nabula: 8/368]

19-          Haafidh Ibn Abdil Barr said about a narration narrated by Ad-Daraawardi that: “This Hadeeth is Madani (and) Saheeh”
[Al-Tamheed: 24/334]

20-          Imaam Shu’bah bin al-Hajjaaj narrated from Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi
[See, Tahdheeb al-Kamaal: 18/187]

Imaam Shu’bah (normally) only narrated from those who are Thiqah according to him.
[See, Muqaddimah Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb (1/5) and Qawaaid fi Uloom ul-Hadeeth by Zafar Ahmed al-Thaanvi al-Deobandi (I’laa us-Sunan: 19/217)]

There is no Jarh from Imaam Shu’bah proven on Ad-Daraawardi; therefore, according to the tahqeeq above it is proven that he was Thiqah according to him.

21-          Imaam Abdur Rahmaan bin Mahdi narrated from Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad ad-Daraawardi
[See, Tahdheeb al-Kamaal: 4/528]

Imaam Abdur Rahmaan bin Mahdi (normally) only narrated from those who are Thiqah according to him
[See, Tadreeb ar-Raawi (1/317) and I’laa us-Sunan (19/216)]

There being no Jarh of Ibn Mahdi available on Ad-Daraawardi, proves that his narration from him is his Tawtheeq.

22-          Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami said about a narration containing Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi that: “Its narrators are Thiqaat”
[Majma az-Zawaaid: 6/68]

23-          Haafidh Ibn al-Mulaqqin said about a narration of Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad that: “Its chain is on the condition of As-Saheeh; Abdul Azeez is among the narrators of Saheehayn”
[Al-Badar al-Muneer: 8/280]

24-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani said: “He is Sudooq (Truthful)”
[Fath ul-Baari: 3/495 Under H. 1638-1640]

And he said: “He is Sudooq, when he narrates from the books of other people, he commits mistakes; An-Nasaa’ee said: His hadeeth from Ubaydullah (bin Umar) al-Umri is Munkar”
[Taqreeb: 4119]

The authors of Tahreer Taqreeb at-Tahdheeb said: “Rather he is Thiqah”
[2/371]

After restricting the Jarh to the narration of Ubaydullah al-Umri, he said: “And his remaining narrations are Saheeh”
[Same: P. 372]

Haafidh Ibn Hajar himself said about a narration of Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad that: “This Hadeeth is Saheeh”
[Nataaij al-Afkaar: 3/210]

25-          Imaam Ya’qoob bin Sufyaan al-Faarsi said about a narration of Abdul Azeez Ad-Daraawardi that: “This Chain is Jayyid (Strong)” and said: “According to the people of Madeenah, Abdul Azeez is Thiqah Imaam”
[Kitaab al-Ma’rifah wal Taareekh: 1/349]

26-          Imaam an-Nawawi said about a narration of Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad that: “It is narrated with a Jayyid (Strong) chain”
[See, Khulaasah al-Ahkaam (1/403 H. 1284)]

And after H. 1288, he said: “Narrated Ad-Daaraqutni in his Sunan with a Hasan chain”
[Mukhtasar Sunan Abu Dawood by Mundhiri: 1/399 H. 804]

Note: The authentication of a chain or a lone narration is the authentication of all the narrators.
[See, Nasb ur-Rayaa (1/149, 3/264); Bayaan al-Wahem wal Ayhaam by Ibn al-Qattaan al-Faasi (5.395 H. 2562); Ta’jeel al-Munfa’ah (P. 228, 248); and Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb (5/309-310 T. Abdullah bin Utbah bin Abi Sufyaan)]

27-          Haafidh Ibn Katheer said about a narration of Abdul Azeez that: “It is narrated with Saheeh chain” and said: “This chain is on the condition of Muslim”
[See, Tafseer Ibn Katheer (with Tahqeeq of Abdur Razzaaq al-Mahdi: 2/283 under 2022, Soorah al-Nisaa Verse: 43)]

28-          Abdul Haqq al-Ashbaylee mentioned the narration of Abdul Azeez in his book “Al-Ahkaam al-Wusta” (1/399) and did not do any Jarh which is an authentication from him.

Muhammad Naasir ud-Deen al-Albaani said that Abdul Haqq has authenticated in al-Ahkaam al-Kubra (1/54)
[See, Asal Sifat as-Salaah: 2/720]

29-          Imaam ad-Daaraqutni said about a narration of Abdul Azeez ad-Daraawardi that: “It is Saheeh”
[Sunan ad-Daaraqutni: 1/144 H. 510]

Besides these, there are many other references of Tawtheeq and praise, for example:

1.     As-Suyooti
[See, Al-Haawi lil Fataawa: 1/350]

2.     Al-Zarqaani
[Sharh al-Mawaahib: 7/320 with reference from Asal Sifat as-Salaah: 2/720]

3.     Ibn al-‘Ammaad al-Hanbali
[Shadhraat adh-Dhahab: 1/316, who said: He is Faqeeh, a man of Hadeeth]

4.     Abu Bakr al-Humaydi
[See, Al-Ma’rifah wal Taareekh: 1/428]

5.     Al-Busayri
[Zawaaid Sunan Ibn Maajah, P. 256 H. 598, Hadeeth Ibn Maajah: 1765]

After the Tawtheeq of Imaam Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad ad-Daraawardi, here are the references of Jarh (according to the Tahqeeq and Tahreef of some people):

1-    Haafidh Dhahabi said that Imaam Abu Haatim said: “Evidence is not taken from him”
[Meezaan al-I’tidaal: 2/634]

I did not find this reference from Imaam Abu Haatim anywhere with an authentic chain. Whereas it is written in Kitaab al-Jarh wat Ta’deel that Imaam Abu Haatim said: “He is a Muhaddith”
[5/396]

2-    Imaam as-Saaji said: “He is from the people of Truth and Honesty except that he committed a lot of mistakes”
[Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb: 6/316]

This reference is chain-less and it is possible that Haafidh Ibn Hajar narrated it from Kitaab ad-Du’afa of Imaam as-Saaji. Wallahu a’lam

3-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “His book is more authentic than his memory…. The common narrations of ad-Daraawardi from Ubaydullah are the narrations of Abdullah al-Umri which are Maqloob (altered)… he has Munkar narrations from Ubaydullah”
[Suwa’laat Abi Dawood, P. 221-222]

The Jarh in this saying is restricted to his narrations from Ubaydullah al-Umri

Note: Ubaydullah al-Umri was a Weak narrator, but from Naafi’ alone his narrations are Hasan; and the narrations of Ad-Daraawardi from Ubaydullah al-Umri are also, according to the most authentic view, authentic.

Haafidh Dhahabi said: “Ahmed bin Hanbal said that when he narrates from memory, he commits mistakes, and he is nothing; and if he narrates from book that he is fine… and when he narrates from memory, he narrates Baatil narrations”
[Meezaan al-I’tidaal: 2/633-634]

This reference is Mardood also because of being chain-less

4-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said: “He is weak in memory, when sometimes he narrates something from memory, he makes mistakes”
[Kitaab al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 5/396]

5-    A Deobandi named, Zahoor Ahmed said about Imaam Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad that: “Imaam Ahmed bin Zubayr said, he is nothing”
[Rak’aat-e-Taraaweeh Aik Tahqeeqi Jaizah: P. 250]

This reference is chain-less and without any reference which is why it is Mardood. And who is Ahmed bin Zubayr?? This is not known as well.

6-    Imaam Nasaa’ee said: “He is not strong” and said: “There is nothing wrong in him and his hadeeth from Ubaydullah bin Umar is Munkar”
[Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb: 6/354; Tahdheeb al-Kamaal: 4/529]

This saying was not found with an authentic and connected chain. Moreover, it also contains the tawtheeq of Abdul Azeez through the words “There is nothing wrong in him”. Therefore, this Jarh is Mardood due to three reasons:

First: It is not proven from Nasaa’ee
Second: It is only related to those narrations which Ad-Daraawardi narrated from Ubaydullah al-Umri
Third: This Jarh is against the Tawtheeq of Jamhoor.

Conclusion:

Abdul Azeez bin Muhammad ad-Daraawardi is Thiqah and Sudooq. Therefore, his narration is Saheeh and Hasan Lidhaatih and the Jarh on him is rejected.
