Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat
Ta’deel:
1- Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “There
is nothing wrong in him”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 2/102-103, Chain Saheeh]
2- Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “There
is nothing wrong in him”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 2/103, Chain Saheeh]
Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een also said: “He is Thiqah,
Saheeh ul-Kitaab, I have written from him”
[Taareekh Baghdaad: 6/609, Chain Saheeh]
It is also narrated from Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een that
he said about al-Mu’addab that: “He is Da’eef”
[Al-Kaamil: 1/404]
However, this is against many of his other sayings
narrated in his Tawtheeq. It is possible that Ibn Ma’een might have declared
him weak in comparison to a more Thiqah person than him, as is well known practice of
Imaam Ibn Ma’een. Therefore, the ruling is on his Tawtheeq.
3- Imaam Abu al-Hasan al-Ijlee
said: “He is Thiqah”
[Thiqaat: 25]
4- Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him
in Ath-Thiqaat [1/15]
5- Imaam ad-Daaraqutni said: “He
is Thiqah”
[Taareekh Baghdaad: 6/609, Chain Saheeh]
6- Imaam Ibn Adee said: “I did not
find anything in his weakness except what Mu’aawiyah bin Saalih narrated from
Yahya ibn Ma’een. And he is, according to me, Hasan ul-Hadeeth; he is not as Mu’aawiyah
has narrated from Yahya, and he has many fine Ghareeb narrations which denotes
that Abu Ismaa’eel is from the people of truth, and he is from those whose
narrations are written down”
[Al-Kaamil: 1/405]
7- Haafidh Ibn Hajar said: “He is
Thiqah according to the Jamhoor”
[Al-Amaali al-Mutlaqah: 1/54]
