Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh
wat Ta’deel:
1- Imaam Ali ibn al-Madeeni said: “He
is Thiqah”
[Suwa’laat Ibn Abi Shaybah: 94]
2- Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “He
is Thiqah; Yahya bin Sa’eed al-Qattaan and others have narrated from him”
[Suwa’laat Ibn Tahmaan: 24]
3- Imaam Bukhaari and Muslim have
narrated from him.
Haafidh al-Iraaqi said: “Muslim took evidence from
him”
[Sharh Sunan Tirmidhi: P. 174]
Haafidh al-Mizzi said: “Bukhaari narrated from him
with a support of another narrator (Maqroonan)”

4- Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said:
“He is Saalih al-Hadeeth, write his narrations, he is a Shaykh”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 138]
5- Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani
said: “His hadeeth is Saalih, a group of Thiqah narrators have narrated from
him… and I think there is nothing wrong in him”
[Al-Kaamil by Ibn Adee: 3/78]
6- Imaam Tirmidhi authenticated
his hadeeth saying: “This hadeeth is Hasan Saheeh”
[Sunan at-Tirmidhi: 3236, 3245, 3280, 3292… etc]
Imaam Tirmidhi also said about one of his hadeeth
that: “This hadeeth is Hasan Ghareeb (i.e. not narrated from any other route
except this one)”

7- Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him
ath-Thiqaat and said: “Makes Mistakes” [7/377]
Imaam Ibn Hibbaan also narrated a lot of narrations
from him in his Saheeh as evidence

8- Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah narrated
many narrations from him as evidence in his Saheeh (Ibn Khuzaymah)

9- Imaam Ibn Shaaheen mentioned
him among the Thiqah narrators

Imaam al-Haakim authenticated his hadeeth saying: “This hadeeth is
Saheeh upon the condition of Muslim”
[Mustadrak al-Haakim: 2704]
He also said about another narration of Al-Laythi: “This
hadeeth is Saheeh ul-Isnaad”

Imaam Zaya al-Maqdisi narrated narrations from him as evidence in
al-Mukhtaarah

Imaam Abu Awaanah narrated several ahadeeth from him in al-Mustakhraj (which
contains all Saheeh narrations according to him) as evidence.

Imaam ad-Daaraqutni authenticated many of his narrations in Ilal
ad-Daaraqutni

Haafidh Ibn Abdil Barr said: “He (Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqamah) is
nothing but one of the Thiqah Shuyookh according to him (i.e. Imaam Maalik)”

Haafidh al-Busayri said about a hadeeth of Al-Laythi that: “Its chain
is Saheeh and all the narrators are Thiqaat”

Haafidh al-Iraaqi narrates from Haafidh Ibn as-Salaah that he said: “…And
because of that, his hadeeth is of the level of Hasan”

Imaam Dhahabi said: “He is a Famous Shaykh, Hasan ul-Hadeeth”
[Meezaan al-I’tidaal: 8015]
Dhahabi also said: “He is al-Imaam al-Muhaddith
al-Sadooq… and his hadeeth comes in the level of Hasan”

Imaam Dhahabi also mentioned him in his book “Man
Takallam Feehi Wahuwa Mawthaq (Those who are criticized but they are reliable)”

Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami said: “He is Thiqah Hasan ul-Hadeeth”
[Majma az-Zawaaid: 1118]

Abu Muhammad Afeef ud-Deen al-Yaafi’ee (D. 768) said: “He (Muhammad bin
Amr bin Alqamah al-Laythi) is Hasan ul-Hadeeth, Katheer ul-Ilm, Mash-hoor
(Famous), Bukhaari narrated from him”

Haafidh Khaleel bin Aybak as-Safdi said: “He is one of the Scholars of
Hadeeth”

Haafidh Ibn Hajar said: “He is Sudooq, makes mistakes”

Haafidh Ibn Hajar said about a narration of
al-Laythi that: “Nasaa’ee narrated it with chain Hasan, it contains Muhammad
bin Amr bin Alqamah, Ibn as-Sakan and al-Haakim have authenticated it”

Haafidh Ibn Hajar further said: “He is Sudooq, there
is something in his memory, and his hadeeth is of the level of Hasan”

Jaariheen:
1- Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “People
abstain from his hadeeth, it was said to him, and what is that defect (in him,
because of which people abstain from his hadeeth)? He replied: He narrates
something from Abu Salamah at one time from his raye, then he narrates it the
other time from Abu Salamah from Abu Hurayrah”
[Taareekh Ibn Abi Khaythamah: 3143]
In this saying, Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een is only
narrating the view of what the people think about him. This is a not a Jarh
from him on Muhammad bin Amr. On the contrary, more than one of the students of
Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een has narrated the Tawtheeq of Muhammad bin Amr from him.

2- Ibraaheem bin Ya’qoob as-Sa’di
al-Juzjaani said: “He is not strong in hadeeth”
[Ahwaal ur-Rijaal: 244]
3- Imaam Ibn Sa’d said: “Katheer
ul-Hadeeth, weak”
[Tabaqaat al-Kubra: 9/228]
4- Ibn al-Jawzee weakened him in
Ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen.
Conclusion:
The
Jamhoor has done the Tawtheeq of Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqamah bin Waqqaas
al-Laythi; therefore, he is as the Jamhoor said: “Sadooq Hasan ul-Hadeeth”.
