Bahz bin Hakeem bin Mu’aawiyah bin Haydah al-Qushayri, Abu Abdil Malik al-Basari

Tabaqah: 6 – From the contemporaries of Minor Taabi’een

Death: Before 160 H

Narrated by: Bukhaari in Ta’leeq form – Abu Dawood – Tirmidhi – Nasaa’ee – Ibn Maajah

Teachers: His father Hakeem bin Mu’aawiyah, Zuraarah bin Awfa, and others.

Students: Ismaa’eel bin Ulayyah, Bishr bin al-Mufaddal, Hammaad bin Usaamah, Hammaad bin Zayd, Hammaad bin Salamah, Sufyaan ath-Thawree, Sulemaan at-Taymee, Abu Aasim ad-Dahhaak bin Makhlad, Ibn Shihaab az-Zuhri, Ma’mar bin Raashid and others.

Status: Thiqah

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta'deel:

1-    Imaam Ali ibn al-Madeeni said: “Bahz bin Hakeem is Thiqah”

2-    Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “He is Thiqah”
[Taareekh ad-Dauri: 2/64; Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: 2/430, Chain Saheeh]

Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een is said to have once asked about the chain of Bahz bin Hakeem from his father from his Grandfather, so he said: “This chain is Saheeh”

3-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said: “He is Saalih but is not famous”

4-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “He is a Shaykh, write his narrations, and do not take evidence from him”

5-    Imaam Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Muslim bin Qutaybah said: “He is from the best of people”
[Al-Ma’aarif by Ibn Qutaybah: 1/482]

6-    Imaam Abu Hafs Ibn Shaaheen said: “He is Thiqah”
[Taareekh Asmaa ath-Thiqaat: 1/49]

7-    Imaam Tirmidhi said: “He is Thiqah according to the people of Hadeeth”
[Sunan at-Tirmidhi: 4/309 H. 1897]

8-    Imaam Ibn Adee said: “And I hope there is nothing wrong in his narrations, and I do not know anyone from the Thiqah people who opposed him in narrating, nor do I know any Munkar hadeeth from him, and I hope when a Thiqah person narrates from him, there is nothing wrong in his hadeeth”

9-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan said: “He makes a lot of mistakes, as for Ahmed bin Hanbal and Ishaaq bin Ibraaheem then they have taken evidence from him and narrated from him; and a group from our Aimmah has abandoned him. Had he not narrated the hadeeth ‘We will take it, and half of his camels, as one of the rights of our Lord [See, Al-Nasaa’ee: 2444]’ I would have entered him among the Thiqah narrators, and he is among those concerning whom I have prayed Istikhaarah asking Allaah for guidance”

Note: Imaam Dhahabi has refuted each claim of Jarh of Ibn Hibbaan in Taareekh al-Islaam [See, 9/51]

10-          Imaam Abu Abdullah al-Haakim graded his hadeeth saying, “Saheeh ul-Isnaad”
[Mustadrak al-Haakim: 6987, 8686 etc Followed by Dhahabi]

He also said: “He is among the Thiqah narrators”
[Su’aalaat as-Sajzi lil Haakim: 1/147]

11-          Imaam Dhahabi said: “He is al-Imaam al-Muhaddith”
[Siyar A’laam al-Nabula: 6/253]

He also said: “He has a Hasan Nuskha which he narrated from his Father from his Grandfather”
[Taareekh al-Islaam: 3/824]

He also said: “His hadeeth is Hasan”
[Al-Mughni fi ad-Du’afa: 1/116]

Imaam Dhahabi also mentioned him in “Man Takallam Feehi Wahuwa Mawthaq”
[1/55 T. 55]

12-          Al-Busayri authenticated his hadeeth saying, “Its chain is Hasan”
[Misbaah uz-Zajaajah: 1/33]

13-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar authenticated one of his hadeeth saying, “Its chain is Hasan”
[Taghleeq al-Ta’leeq: 4/431]

Ibn Hajar also said: “He is Thiqah according to the Jumhoor”
[Fath ul-Baari: 13/355 Under H. 7371-7355]

14-          Haafidh Ibn Abdil Haadi said: “He is Thiqah according to the Jumhoor”
[Al-Muharrar fi al-Hadeeth: 1/173 H. 199]

15-          Imaam Nawawi said: “Yahya ibn Ma’een and the Jumhoor has said that he is Thiqah”
[Tahdheeb al-Asmaa wal Lughaat: 1/137]

16-          Haafidh Ibn al-Mulaqqin said: “The Jumhoor is upon his Tawtheeq as said by Nawawi in his Tahdheeb”
