Eesa bin Yoonus bin Abi Ishaaq as-Sabi’ee




Name:
عِيْسَى بنُ يُوْنُسَ بنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيْعِيُّ أَبُو عَمْرٍو، وَ يقال أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الكُوْفِيُّ

Eesa bin Yoonus bin Abi Ishaaq as-Sabi’ee Abu Amr and it is said, Abu Muhammad Al-Koofi

Tabaqah: 8 – From the Middle Level of Taba Taabi’een

Death: 187 H in Shaam

Narrated by: Bukhaari – Muslim – Abu Dawood – Tirmidhi – Nasaa’ee – Ibn Maajah

Teachers: Israa’eel bin Yoonus (his Brother), Ismaa’eel bin Abi Khaalid, Ismaa’eel bin Abdul Malik, Sa’eed bin Abi Aroobah, Sufyaan ath-Thawree, Sulemaan al-A’mash, Shu’bah bin al-Hajjaaj, Maalik bin Anas, and many others.

Students: Ishaaq bin Rahwayh, Ismaa’eel bin Ayyaash, Baqiyyah bin al-Waleed, Hammaad bin Salamah, Abu Tawbah Rabee’ bin Naafi, Sufyaan bin Wakee’ bin al-Jarraah, Abdullah bin Maslamah al-Qa’nabi, Ali bin al-Madeeni, Yahya ibn Ma’een and many others.

Status: Thiqah Thabat

Opinions of Ahl ul-Jarh wat Ta’deel:

1-    Imaam Ali ibn al-Madeeni said: “He is Thiqah Ma’moon”

2-    Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi said: “He is Thiqah”
[Al-Jarh wat Ta’deel: Vol. 6 T. 1618]

3-    Imaam Abdullah bin Ahmed said, I asked my Father (Ahmed bin Hanbal): Whose hadeeth is more authentic, Eesa bin Yoonus’ or his Father Yoonus’? He replied: “No, but Eesa’s hadeeth is more authentic”

Imaam Ahmed once also called him Thiqah Thabat

4-    Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi said: “He is a Haafidh”

5-    Imaam Ibn Sa’d said: “He is Thiqah Thabat”
[Tabaqaat al-Kubra: 3989]

6-    Imaam al-Ijlee said: “He is Thiqah…He is Thabat in Hadeeth”
[Thiqaat: 1338]

7-    Imaam Ibn Hibbaan mentioned him in Ath-Thiqaat [9857]

8-    Imaam Abdullah bin Ammaar al-Mawsali said: “Eesa bin Yoonus, Israa’eel bin Yoonus, Yoosuf bin Yoonus are all brother; the most firm of all of these is Eesa bin Yoonus then Yoosuf, and he is Athbat than Israa’eel, then Israa’eel”

9-    Imaam an-Nawawi said: “There is a unanimous agreement on his greatness, his Tawtheeq, and his high status”
[Tahdheeb al-Asmaa wal Lughaat: 2/48]

He also said:
“He saw his grandfather (Imaam Abu Ishaaq as-Sabi’ee – Thiqah Mudallis) but did not hear anything from him”

10-          Imaam Ibn al-Jawzee said: “He is Thiqah Thabat”
[Al-Muntazim: 9/195]

11-          Imaam Dhahabi said: “He is al-Imaam al-Qudwah al-Haafidh al-Hujjah…”
[Siyar A’laam al-Nabula: 8/489]

12-          Haafidh Ibn Hajar said: “He is Thiqah Ma’moon”
[Lisaan al-Meezaan: 4350]
