أبو سلمة بن عبد الرحمن بن عوف القرشى الزهرى ، المدنى ، قيل اسمه عبد الله ، و قيل إسماعيل ( و قيل اسمه و كنيته واحد )

Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahmaan bin Awf al-Qurashi az-Zuhri, al-Madani, it is said his name is Abdullah, and it is said (his name is) Ismaa’eel (and it is said his name and his Kunyah is the same)

Tabaqah: From the Middle level of Taabi’een

Death: 94 or 100 H in al-Madeenah

1-    Imaam A’mash said, Abdullah bin Zakwaan Abu az-Zinaad came upon us, we asked him about the Fuqaha of Ahl al-Madeenah, so he said: There are four of them: Sa’eed ibn al-Musayyab, Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahmaan, Urwah bin az-Zubayr, and Abdul Malik bin Umayr

2-    Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “He did not hear anything from his Father (Abdur Rahmaan bin Awf)”

Imaam Yahya also said: “He did not hear anything from Talhah bin Ubaydullah”

3-    Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal said: “He did not hear anything from Abu Moosa al-Ash’ari”

12-          Imaam ad-Daaraqutni said: “He is Thiqah”

13-          Imaam al-Haakim authenticated many of his narrations on the condition of Shaykhayn or one of them at several places

14-          Imaam Dhahabi said: “He is from the Major Aimmah Taabi’een, he has excessive amount of knowledge, Thiqah, a Scholar”

15-          Haafidh Salaah ud-Deen al-‘Alaa’ee said: “Ibn al-Madeeni mentioned him among the group of those people whose meeting is not proven from Zayd bin Thaabit, and Saalih bin Muhammad said that he did not hear anything from Amr bin al-Aas”
