1-   Imaam Shu’bah bin al-Hajjaaj said, I heard Abu Husayn (D. 127) praising Qays.

2-   Imaam Abu Nu’aym (Al-Fadl bin Dukayn) said: I heard Sufyaan (Ath-Thawree, D. 161), when Qays bin Rabee’ was mentioned, he praised him.

3-   Imaam Amr bin Ali al-Fallaas said I heard Mu’aadh bin Mu’aadh (D. 196) praising Qays.

4-   Imaam Ibn al-Madeeni said that Imaam Wakee’ ibn al-Jarraah (D. 197) weakened Qays bin ar-Rabee’.

Imaam Ahmed said, I heard Wakee’ saying more than once: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ narrated to us – and Allaah’s refuge is sought (from his hadeeth)”

5-   Muhammad bin al-Muthanna said: “I never heard Yahya (Al-Qattaan, D. 198) and Abdur Rahmaan (bin Mahdi, D. 198) narrating anything from Qays bin ar-Rabee’”

Imaam Amr bin Ali al-Fallaas said: “Yahya and Abdur Rahmaan did not used to narrate from Qays; Abdur Rahmaan narrated to us from him before that and later abandoned him”

6-    Ahmed bin Saalih al-Misri asked Imaam Abu Nu’aym Al-Fadl bin Dukayn al-Koofi (D. 219): Is Qays bin ar-Rabee’ anything to you? He replied: “No”

7-   Imaam Abu al-Waleed at-Tiyaalsi (D. 227) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee is Thiqah, Hasan ul-Hadeeth”

8-   Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een (D. 233) said: “He is nothing”

Ibn Tahmaan said, Yahya ibn Ma’een said: “The hadeeth of Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is nothing”

He also said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is Da’eef”

9-   Al-Marwazi said, I asked Ahmed bin Hanbal (D. 241) about Qays bin ar-Rabee’, thus he weakened him.

Imaam Ahmed also said: “He is a Shi’aa and he makes a lot of mistakes in hadeeth”

Imaam Ahmed also said: “He had a son who would take the hadeeth of Mis’ar, Sufyaan ath-Thawree and the early people and he would add them into the hadeeth of his father while he (his father) would not know”

10-         Imaam Bukhaari (D. 256) said: “I do not write the hadeeth of Qays bin ar-Rabee’ and neither do I narrate from him”

Imaam Bukhaari also mentioned him in his Ad-Du’afa as-Sagheer [1/115 # 316]

11-         Imaam Ibraaheem bin Ya’qoob al-Juzjaani (D. 259) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is Saaqit (void)”

12-         Imaam Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazi (D. 264) said: “He is Layyin”

13-         Imaam Abu Haatim ar-Raazi (D. 277) said: “He is at the level of being truthful, and he is not strong, write his narrations, but do not take evidence from him, and he is more beloved to me than Muhammad bin Abdur Rahmaan bin Abi Layla, and evidence is not taken from the hadeeth of either of them.”

14-         Imaam Tirmidhi (D. 279) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee is weakened in hadeeth”

15-         Imaam Abu Abdur Rahmaan Ahmed bin Shu’ayb an-Nasaa’ee (D. 303) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is Matrook ul-Hadeeth (Abandoned in hadeeth)”

16-         Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (D. 354) mentioned Qays in his al-Majroheen and narrated the criticisms of Scholars.

17-         Imaam Abu Ahmed bin Adee al-Jarjaani said: “La Ba’sa Bihi (There is nothing wrong in him)”

18-         Imaam Daaraqutni (D. 385) declared Qays to be “Da’eef”

19-         Imaam Bayhaqi (D. 458) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is not strong”

He also said: “Evidence is not taken from him”

20-         Ibn al-Qaysaraani al-Soofi (D. 507) said: “Qays is nothing”

He further said: “Qays is Da’eef”

21-         Imaam Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzee mentioned him in ad-Du’afa wal Matrokeen and said: “He narrates ahadeeth which contain dispute (Nazr)”

22-         Imaam Abu al-Hajjaaj al-Mizzi (D. 742) said: “Qays is Da’eef in hadeeth”

23-         Imaam Dhahabi (D. 748) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ has weak memory”

At one place, he said: “He is Da’eef (Weak)”

24-         Haafidh Ibn al-Mulaqqin (D. 804) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is Sudooq; and hujjah is not taken from him”

25-         Haafidh Abu al-Fadl al-Iraaqi (D. 806) said: “He is Differed upon”

He also said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is weakened by Jamhoor”

26-         Haafidh Noor ud-Deen al-Haythami (D. 807) said: “A Jama’ah (group) has weakened him”

27-         Haafidh al-Busayri (D. 840) said, while commenting on a hadeeth: “This chain is weak because of the weakness of Qays bin ar-Rabee’”

He also said: “La Yuhtajju Bihi (Evidence is not taken from him)”

28-         Haafidh Ibn Hajar (D. 852) said: “He is truthful, he has been weakened because of his weak memory”

Ibn Hajar also said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ is Da’eef (Weak)”

29-         Badr ud-Deen al-Aynee (D. 855) said: “He (Qays) is Da’eef (weak)”

30-         Mulla Ali Qaari (D. 1014) said: “He is weakened in hadeeth”
[Mirqaat al-Mafateeh Sharh Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh: 7/2714]

31-         Haafidh Zayn ud-Deen Muhammad al-Manaawi (D. 1034) said: “Qays bin ar-Rabee’ al-Asdi has been weakened by many people”

He also said: “He is weakened by Jamhoor”

32-         Ibraaheem bin Muhammad bin Muhammad Kamaal ud-Deen al-Hanafi ad-Dimashqi (D. 1120) said: “He is Weak”

33-         As-Sana’aani (D. 1182) said: “He is Da’eef (weak)”

34-         Imaam ash-Shawkaani (D. 1250) said: “He is Da’eef (weak)”

Conclusion: The Jamhoor has declared Qays bin ar-Rabee’ to be Da’eef.
